UMBC Career Services Center

Working as an intern for the Career Services Center at UMBC gave me the opportunity to create a number of flyers, web ads, posters, and a variety of other advertisements to be displayed on campus. All pieces were required to fit within the branding standards, using certain typefaces and colors. Therefore, much of what I aimed to do was create interest through typographical means.

Monograph

The following are selections from a twenty-seven page monograph about the Italian typographer and graphic designer, Aldo Novarese, and the significance of his typeface, Eurostile.

Email Stationery

Below are samples of email stationery for employees at various companies. There are many limits when creating email stationery that had to be considered in the design; for instance, the white backround, and expandable nature of the document.

My name is Virginia Bach, and I am currently a senior at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County. In May 2010 I will graduate with a Bachelors degree in Visual Arts with a concentration in Graphic Design. Rizk Outfitters

Rizk Outfitters is a fictional corporation, specializing in clothing for outdoor activities such as snowboarding, surfing, and skiing. This project involved the creation of a logo, and a variety of other products and advertisements for the company.

Old Ellicott City

The goal of this piece was to create an identity for Old Ellicott City, an historical town located in Maryland. My goal was to create something that could reflect the rich historical past of the neighborhood, but also hint at a sense of modernity.

Streamlining The Word

A black and white brochure which was created for "Streamlining The Word: Sans Serif Type", an exhibit at the Fine Arts Gallery at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County. The focus is typography, and positive and negative space.

Creation of a Typeface

This typeface, "Emanon" is influenced by fonts of the Bauhaus era. It is based on geometric shapes, and each letter is mathematically proportionate.
